Friends of Borlase Hockey
Borlase Hockey was founded in 1972 and celebrated its 40th Anniversary in 2012. The club has steadily grown and, in 2015, Borlase appointed their first Director of Hockey. By 2016, the club had some 260 members across 22 teams. SWBGS’s hockey results go from strength to strength reinforcing its reputation as one of the top state grammar schools in the country.
The Friends of Borlase Hockey (FoBH) is a community of parents, staff and pupils that came together in 2016 with the remit ‘to raise funds for the benefit of the Borlase hockey community’. It builds on the work previously carried out by the Hockey Support Group, whose remit changed when a Director of Hockey was appointed. In addition to raising money to support the extensive over and above hockey programme provided by Borlase, we aim to run social events to provide a fun and relaxed environment for the hockey community to meet that does not involve standing on a cold side-line in the pouring rain or freezing cold!
In the academic year 2016/17 we were able to run the Friends of Borlase Quiz Night and the Borlase Hockey Festival which was supported by more than 150 pupils and staff and ended with a “Parent v Teachers” match.
We have been thrilled by the support we have received in our first year as a group and are always looking for new parents and alumni to join our team. Our meetings are relaxed and informal and notification of meetings is always included in the school newsletter. We would love to hear from any parents or alumni who are keen to get more involved, join us or to help at events, or local businesses that would like to engage with our events.
