Sir William Borlase's Grammar School

Shaping the Future

We are committed to ensuring our Sixth Formers understand the range of opportunities available to them when they leave Borlase and prepare them to be in a position to access their next pathway with confidence.

Early in Year 12 all students are introduced to the process of researching Higher Education, Higher Level Apprenticeships and employment with A Levels.  The majority of our students still choose to apply to university - most applying to traditional universities, but others to specialist colleges such as Music or Dance conservatoires, Drama Schools for Performance or Technical Design, Art Schools or Film Schools.  We are experienced in successfully preparing students for Oxford and Cambridge, medical schools and American and European universities as well as the full range of UK universities.

We have a few students each year who have taken up very competitive and funded places at institutions such as the James Dyson Academy and others who have accepted High Level Apprenticeships with major blue chip companies. Students hear about opportunities through the weekly Extension and Enrichment Programme in Year 12.  Our Careers Lead makes students aware of any courses and conferences that might interest them.  They are visited by speakers from a range of universities and professions.

Parents of Year 12 students are invited to school in the early Spring term to hear presentations from admissions from the universities of Oxford and Birmingham and apprenticeship schemes.
