Sir William Borlase's Grammar School

COVID 19 and Borlase@Home

The spread of the new, more transmissible variant of the coronavirus led the Government to put England into a new national lockdown from Tuesday 5 January.  We had already made plans to teach students online, through the Borlase@Home system while we organised on-site lateral flow testing.  We have now put the lateral flow testing programme on hold, and the whole school will move to live Borlase@Home lessons from Monday 11 January.

In this section of the website you can find out about our approach to Teaching and Learning during lockdown, the work we do to maintain our unique culture and community and how our students can access help and support for their mental health during what we all know can be a difficult period.

I am absolutely bowled over by the school’s response to an announcement that was made only yesterday evening at 8pm.  I cannot imagine any other school in the country responding so quickly and so positively to the Government’s latest U-turn on school closures and national exams.  To react in that way overnight, and to have a whole system in place by the following morning is beyond impressive, as was the calming delivery of arrangements to a group of year 13 students who are naturally upset and frustrated by the latest news.
