Christmas Carol Services

Carol Services beautiful and memorable

This year’s carol services were a special one to remember. With 5 services in total and 3 weeks to prepare, everyone involved did amazing to perform to such a high quality in such a short amount of time. Cantorum opened the service in candlelight with ‘The Lamb’ by John Taverner and the beautiful, dissonant harmonies echoed around the church before the treble soloists stood up confidently to sing the first verse of ‘Once in Royal David’s City’. Forte e Fiero, the Y7-9 girls choir angelically sang a Ukrainian traditional song arranged by Mr Harker and Gospel’s ‘Can you hear the angels?’ went down a treat. Madriguys’ ‘Star of Glory’ in barbershop style was greatly enjoyed and very energetic as well as Youth Voices’ lively ‘No Room, No Room’ which everyone loved. Many of these items were also performed alongside the Jazz Orchestra and Brass Ensemble at ‘Christmas in the Park’ as part of a very busy week! The many congregational hymns are always fun to sing with such a loud sound especially during ‘The First Nowell’. The alumni and teachers choir performed ‘In the Bleak Midwinter’ with a very impressive sound for only 1 rehearsal. A massive thanks has to go to Mr Miall and the whole music and tech department for making the carol services a great success.
