Futures Evening Careers Event

Future pathways explored at careers evening

The Year 12 Futures evening  took place on Wednesday 24 February and was designed to inform students and parents of the various pathways open to them post Borlase. The evening built on the informative weekly lectures that the students have been attending this half term. They  were fortunate enough to have experienced specialist speakers leading each session  advising how best to submit a competitive application in their field.

Futures Evening was an excellent opportunity for students to further develop their thinking and to help parents/carers understand the opportunities available and how to apply.

The evening covered university applications (UCAS), apprenticeships (including competitive degree apprenticeships), Oxbridge and the Creative Arts. The speakers for each session are listed below:

Katherine Pagett - Student Recruitment, University of Birmingham - UCAS
Tim Swithenbank - Careers Adviser
Katie Day - PwC and Birmingham University - Degree Apprentice and Borlase Alumna - Apprenticeships
Steve Raynor - Access and Outreach Officer, Somerville College, Oxford - Oxbridge
Mark Hartley - SWBGS Performing Arts, Freelance Production Manager and Technical Director for Theatre and Events, Lecturer for Guildhall School of Music and Drama - Creative and Performing Arts

It was an extremely professional event and we hope that it has encouraged students
to do further research and to be inspired by the opportunities ahead.
