Rapidplay Chess Tournament at Eton College

Borlase Chess Teams take part in Secondary School Rapidplay Chess Tournament at Eton College

On Sunday 13th October we took 2 teams to participate in the Eton College Schools team rapidplay tournament. This involved 14 students from years 7 up to year 13, for some of whom it was their first over the board chess tournament.

There were 2 sections this year and the A team acquitted themselves well against some very strong opponents. Out of 5 matches they managed to win 2 and draw 1 and overall finished in 21st place out of the 36 teams in the section. Particular mentions should go to Calvin  who managed to score 3/5 on top board as well as Lucas  who scored a very impressive 3.5/4 and hence finished top scorer for the team.

The B team participated in the lower section, where there were also a few strong A teams, but they performed very well and ended in 19th place out of 32 teams. Managing 1 win and 2 draws in their 5 matches. Credit should go to Oliver who managed to score a very impressive 3.5/5 on board 2, but the start of the tournament for us was Jack  who managed to win all of his 5 games.

Congratulations to all who took part in the tournament, you showed fantastic team spirit as well as playing some excellent chess. We look forward to the next few events, including the qualifying stages of the national competition, which will occur during the coming months.
