Sir William Borlase's Grammar School

Borlase 400 Campaign

The Borlase 400 Campaign is our ambitious fundraising programme to create a 21st Century learning environment for all our students today and in the future.

Borlase 400 Campaign (Second Phase)

The final phase of the Borlase 400 Campaign has involved efforts to secure sufficient funding to drastically improve facilities for the curriculum, health, and well-being of our students at the heart of the school site. It was time to upgrade our ill-equipped canteen, which was too small to serve freshly cooked food at lunch and breaks. Takeaway food was served in cardboard packaging with bottled drinks and many students stand to eat. The new canteen allows a more environmentally friendly approach, and we can accommodate all of our children seated for lunch in two sittings.  We have also created a much-needed Biology lab and upgraded the gas supplies to the Science department.  The final part of the Borlase 400 Campaign saw the creation of a new sixth form study area with a coffee shop, which opened early in 2024.

We would like to recognise all donors to the Borlase 400 Campaign in the new Centenary Hall.

The Borlase Sports Campus

Sport is incredibly important to the school’s values and ethos and always has been. The school has always aimed to offer the best possible opportunities for students to participate in and enjoy sport and also for those aspiring to achieve at the highest level to be able to do this at the school and beyond.

Sport at Borlase has continued to thrive despite the fact that our facilities have fallen short of acceptable standards for many years. Health and wellbeing, both physical and mental, are increasingly important for all students, and it is only right that we provide the best possible facilities for everyone to enjoy, for recreation or performance purposes.

Thanks to the incredible support of our community and our fundraising initiatives including the Borlase Boost and the Borlase Sports Lottery, the vision of our new sports campus has been achieved!

The new Sports Campus encompasses:

  • A full-size Sports Hall to accommodate sports such as indoor hockey, basketball, and badminton, along with facilitating other sports within the PE and Games curriculum

  • A fully-equipped fitness suite for all to use

  • All-weather sports pitch

  • Three netball/tennis courts

  • A grass football pitch on Quoitings

With special thanks to the Garfield Weston Foundation for helping to make the project a reality

Preserving the Old Buildings

Over the last few

Over the last few years, the school has been successful in bidding for a further £2 million investment to renovate and make safe the roofs and windows of the old buildings, preserving them for future generations. A generous legacy donation has enabled us to open The Stuart Lever Room to make the school archive and special collections accessible to current students and Old Borlasians.
