Therefore, we are always striving to provide more opportunities for our young people to be active; in both traditional sports and through health and wellness activities. We aim to provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. With this in mind, students receive 2 hours of PE & Games lessons per week. All students have the opportunity to study Physical Education at GCSE and/ or A Level in addition to Sports Leaders Qualifications.
Every student, regardless of ability or athleticism has access to an extremely diverse, extracurricular sports programme and can choose between recreational activities, or elite sports.
Borlase has two focus sports in Rowing and Hockey and also provides competitive opportunities in athletics, cheerleading, cricket, cross-country running, equestrian, football, netball, rounders, rugby, softball, tennis and trampolining. In 2018-19, Borlase competed in 20 different sports; had over 110 competitive teams and played over 600 fixtures.
All fixture information and results are available on our sports website: www.swbgssport.com. You can also follow SWBGS Sport on Twitter @BorlaseSport.
Our teams take part in all the major local and national competitions and a number of students regularly achieve representative honours at county, regional and national level. Sports tours abroad are organised on a regular basis; destinations include Australia, Singapore, Holland, Paris & Malta.
Borlase Sports regularly achieve success on a local and national scale. Our most notable highlights in recent years are detailed below.
The Boat Club was the first to qualify a crew in all three junior events at Henley Royal Regatta and won the Fawley Challenge Cup in 2012,2014 and 2015. It has won numerous titles at the National Schools Regatta and has contributed over 20 junior rowers to the Great Britain teams since 2010.
2020 saw the club grow, with a record membership of over 140. These girls and boys are supported by our team of coaches led by our new Director of Rowing. The boat club supported by the Parents Support Group is celebrating its Centenary year in 2021. We look forward to continuing the school’s history of success throughout the rest of this season.
Phil Gray works as our Director of Rowing as we continue to keep Borlase Rowing at the top of junior rowing. For more details about rowing please contact rowing@swbgs.com.
The club has over 260 and 20+ coaches, who all work closely with the full-time Director of Hockey. Three regional quarter-finalists, ten regional qualifiers and four county champions have contributed to the success of the club on a team front in recent years, and on an individual level, a number of players have been selected for County, Performance Centre and Futures Cup squads, plus three have been selected to represent their country at U16 and U18 level.
Nathan Monk works as our Director of Hockey as we continue to keep Borlase Hockey moving forward, while maintaining the fantastically strong link with Marlow Hockey Club. For more details about Hockey please email hockey@swbgs.com.
