Extraordinary scenes, participation, and talent on display this week with the finals of the Britpop-themed Borlase House Music Competition taking place during Form Time this week. 1,200 students took to the stage to sing classics from Oasis, Blur, The Verve, and The Boo Radleys. Meanwhile, the solo and ensemble finalists played, sung, and even whistled numbers from Rachmaninoff to Metallica at Thursday evening's concert. Before Christmas, 47/48 Forms practised and recorded their Form entries for even more house points! Well done @borlasemusic and @borlasetechtheatre for another outstanding event, and thank you to guest judge, @julianemerymusic, and @friends_of_borlase_ for keeping everyone refreshed beforehand and during the interval . On Thursday we welcomed Year 12 and their parents/carers to Centenary Hall and the Mountfield Theatre to begin the process of thinking about life after Borlase. OBs, Harvey and Lyla, spoke with great confidence and enthusiasm about their Degree Apprenticeships at @santanderuk and @ukcivilservice cyber security. Sarah Pagett from @unibirmingham talked us through the @ucas_online admissions process and university life, Mike Nicholson from @cambridgeuniversity revealed what is required for an Oxbridge application, and the wonderful Mark Hartley gave an introduction to study, training, and careers in the creative industries, and dance and music conservatoires. The sunlight poured through the windows of Centenary Hall for this morning's Staff INSET day (surely a good omen for the year ahead, even if it makes photography tricky?). With a focus on relationships, wellbeing and empathy, our own fantastic staff delivered sessions on Lived Life Experience, Educational Visits training, and led mindful breathing techniques to reset before another busy year, and we welcomed Zoe from @ithappens_edu who spoke about issues facing secondary-age children today. In an increasingly technological age, people matter most. Informed and aware, we look forward to 2026. Happy New Year!
